VIOLINIST GOALS: NADJA SALERNO-SONNENBERG
Finding a mentor is an important milestone for a young music student. A mentor isn't necessarily someone you will meet with throughout the week, like a teacher. A mentor can be someone who helps enflame a passion for music from outside the classroom. Luckily for New Orleanians, there are many living legends right here in our beloved city! For violin students from all across the world, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg is one of these living legends.
In 1981, Nadja won the Naumburg International violin competition, and then quickly rose to the top. Nadja traveled the world, dazzling audiences and making appearances on popular television. Since transitioning from the life of a soloist to a teacher and mentor, Nadja has worked with the students of Loyola University, directing chamber orchestra, coaching small chamber ensembles, and working in masterclass with the violin studio.
This playlist takes you on an adventure through the many sides of Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and her violin. With everything from violin standards like Fritz Kreisler's Praeludium and Allegro, virtuosic show pieces like the Carmen Fantasy, to more commonly known tunes like “Silent Night.” Check out this playlist of powerful performances, and keep on the look out!
