FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHERE IS THE SCHOOL LOCATED?
Since we're a growing school, we don't have one central location yet. Our teachers currently teach out of 2 home studios: one in the Lakeview/Mid-City area and one in Uptown. Some teachers also offer in-home lessons for an additional fee.
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
Our rates are $120/month for weekly 30-minute lessons and $240/month for weekly 60-minute lessons. Most months will have 4 lessons, but some months may have 5 or 3 lessons because of longer months and business holidays. (The rate doesn’t change for longer or shorter months.)
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept the following forms of payment:
- check (made out to NOLA School of Music)
- venmo (@nolaschoolofmusic)
- paypal (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- credit/debit cards one-time payment
- credit/debit card monthly autopay
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A LESSON?
We understand that unexpected sickness and conflicts do happen, and we have no limit to the number of make-up lessons a student may schedule.
We do ask that you let us know by 10 am the day of the lesson. (This gives us a chance to fill that time slot with another student who needs a makeup). We do not make up no-shows with no notice.
We try to be as flexible as possible with our students so please let us know if you ever need to reschedule a lesson for any reason!
WHAT IF MY TEACHER CANCELS A LESSON?
If your teacher cancels a lesson, your teacher will either reschedule your lesson, or have a substitute teach during your normal lesson time.
CAN I TRY OUT LESSONS WITHOUT MAKING A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT?
Absolutely! When you sign up, you're only committing to lessons on a month-to-month basis, so if you're on the fence, we'd encourage you to try it out for a month and see if you enjoy it!
WILL I NEED TO BUY AN INSTRUMENT?
Yes. We do not provide instruments for our students to take home, so you will need to purchase or rent an instrument.
If you don't have an instrument yet, don't worry! We actually recommend coming in for your first lesson before you buy an instrument, so our teachers can help you know what to look for and where to shop. Our teachers will let you try out their instrument during the lesson.
WILL I NEED TO PRACTICE IN BETWEEN LESSONS?
If you want to get the most out of music lessons, you should commit to some amount of practice time in between your lessons. Daily practice is ideal, even if it's for short amounts of time.
For younger children, we encourage the parents to get involved with helping children develop a practice routine and guiding their practice habits.
DO YOU OFFER EVERY-OTHER-WEEK LESSONS OR OCCASIONAL LESSONS?
We only offer weekly lessons because we've found them to be most effective for learning an instrument (here's why). However, if you have a busy or changing schedule and need to come at different times weekly or reschedule often, we will try our best to accommodate you!
